The New York Mets and reliever Devin Williams are in agreement on a three year deal, a source confirms.

Williams had a rocky 2025 season with the Yankees after being traded to the Bronx last December, and his year never quite settled into the consistency both sides hoped for. The right-hander flashed stretches of effectiveness—particularly early in the season when his velocity held steady and his slider showed above-average bite—but command lapses and difficulty locating his fastball in leverage spots ultimately defined much of his year. At times, Williams looked like the reliable middle-to-late-inning arm the Yankees envisioned; at others, he struggled to finish innings, allowing inherited runners to score and running deep pitch counts that limited his usage.
A midseason mechanical adjustment briefly helped Williams rein in his walk rate, but opposing hitters continued to square him up more often than expected. His hard-hit rate climbed well above league average, and the Yankees began using him in more situational matchups rather than full-inning assignments. Despite the inconsistency, there were still positives: he maintained a whiff rate that hovered near his career norms and showed flashes of the ground-ball profile that made him a valuable trade target in the first place.
Williams will now look to have a better season across town with the Mets. For the second consecutive offseason, the Mets poach the Yankees closer away in free agency.
