The Yankees have not had a good offseason by any means so far. From no external free agents signed, to Trent Grisham taking the $22 million qualifying offer, hampering their plans, to the AL East improving around them, it’s been tough. The Yankees have been steady on two ideas this offseason, the first being they are a good team, and the second, they are too left-handed. Enter Bo Bichette.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reported the Yankees have interest in Bichette. A source confirmed the interest and it might be more than what scratches the surface, though Bichette is viewed as the backup to Bellinger.
Bichette’s 2025 Season
During the 2025 season, Bichette enjoyed a strong bounce-back campaign for the Toronto Blue Jays, finishing the regular season with a .311 batting average, 18 home runs, and 94 RBIs across 139 games. This performance was a vital recovery from his injury-plagued 2024 and helped lead Toronto to a World Series appearance, even as he managed a late-season knee injury that forced a temporary move to second base.
Over his seven-year career, Bichette has established himself as one of the premier contact hitters in the league, amassing 904 hits, 111 home runs, and a lifetime .294 average while twice leading the American League in total hits (2021, 2022).

The Yankees need right-handed hitters, as well as a leadoff hitter. Bichette fills both of those boxes.
Bichette does not come without issues, and his is the defense at shortstop. He finished with league-worst marks in both Defensive Runs Saved (-12) and Outs Above Average (-13), eventually prompting a move to second base during the World Series. What the Yankees could do is put Bichette at short for the 2026 season, and when Jazz Chisholm Jr. walks in free agency, or gets traded, Bichette can move over to second base. And, when Giancarlo Stanton inevitably has his annual stay on the IL, Bichette can DH and Anthony Volpe or Jose Caballero could slot in at shortstop.
The Yankees lineup would drastically improve with Bichette in the lineup, and the team overall. The Yankees should strongly consider bringing Bichette to the Bronx and improve this lineup for years to come.
