Yankees, Bellinger at an “Impasse”

The Yankees and Cody Bellinger are done negotiating — at least for now.

We are heading towards the middle of January, with pitchers and catchers reporting to camp in less than a month and the two sides have yet to find common ground.

The Yankees current offer out to Bellinger is a five-year deal, worth $157 million dollars ($31.4M AAV), according to a source. No deal is done yet.

Bellinger’s camp is seeking a seven-year deal, and about $37 million AAV.

The Yankees are not going to up their offer from what it is now. The team knows that no other team has shown the willingness to offer that kind of deal to Bellinger. Let alone any offer to Bellinger yet.

With the Chicago Cubs signing 3B Alex Bregman, that takes another team out of the Bellinger sweepstakes. The Cubs were probably their most likely competitor.

I still expect the two sides to come to a resolution by the end of this due to lack of interest from other teams, but it takes time. In the meantime, the Yankees need to begin their offseason and get something done soon.
