THE BRONX,NY—The hot start continues in the home opener. The Yankees took this one 8-2 over the Marlins, improving to 6-1 on the season.

The Yankees did a bit of everything today: pitched well, had solid at-bats up and down the lineup, stole bases, and most importantly won.

In 2025, the Yankees got swept by the Marlins. Winning just one of those games would have likely won the Yankees the AL East. This season, they are off to a better start against Miami.

Pitching Highlight

Will Warren looked solid today. The only two runs he allowed were on solo home runs by Xavier Edwards and Owen Cassie. Other than those two blemishes, he looked solid. Warren went 5.2 innings, and might have gone longer if he did not yield two infield hits to end his day.

Hitting Highlight

All Rise. The first Yankee home run hit in the Bronx in 2026 was off the bat of who else, Aaron Judge.

He was struggling on the road trip, but upon returning home, his at-bats were much better today. He had three RBI’s (to on the home run, one on a bases loaded hit by pitch). The lineup around him looked more comfortable with the threat of him going deep in the lineup.

Notable:

The Yankees did a lot of walking today, and stolen bases were back. Marlins starter Eury Perez walked a career high six batters in his outings. In addition, Jazz Chisholm Jr, and Jose Caballero were aggressive on the bases, stealing bags behind him—and the throws were not close to catching either of them. Seeing the Yankees take an aggressive approach on the basepaths.

What’s Next:

The Yankees will play a night game on Saturday in game two of three against the Marlins. Ryan Weathers will make his second start of the season and the first start against his former team. The game will be at 7:05pm on the YES Network.
